Scope of Work & What's Included

Our approach to wood fence in Gridley and surrounding counties covers every detail from initial property measurement and underground utility clearance through laser alignment and site cleanup:

Site survey, boundary line checks, and mandatory Kansas One-Call (811) utility locates
Hydraulic post hole augering 36 to 42 inches deep below the regional frost line
Heavy #1 pressure-treated pine or galvanized PostMaster steel posts set in bell-bottom concrete
Triple horizontal 2x4 framing runners fastened with exterior-grade ceramic construction screws
Hand-selected Western Red Cedar or treated pickets fastened with dual ceramic screws per rail
Custom wood gate build with heavy powder-coated hinges, diagonal anti-sag truss, and gravity latch

Kansas Ground & Weather Considerations

Wood fences across Coffey County and the Flint Hills face severe weather extremes. In winter, freeze-thaw cycles heave shallow posts when moisture expands in heavy Osage clay. In summer, severe drought causes soil shrinkage that destabilizes footings, while straight-line prairie winds over 70 mph snap smooth framing nails. Unsealed lumber quickly cups under intense prairie UV rays. We prevent post rot, leaning lines, and blowout with bell-bottom footings, ceramic-coated screws, and kiln-dried Western Red Cedar.

Our Proven Installation & Build Process

1
1. Site Survey & Utility Locates: We verify fence lines, inspect grades, and confirm Kansas 811 utility markings before digging.
2
2. Deep Hydraulic Augering: Sinking holes 36 to 42 inches deep using skid-steer augers to bypass shifting clay and reach solid subgrade.
3
3. Bell-Bottom Post Anchoring: Setting heavy posts plumb with laser transit levels in bell-shaped high-strength concrete footings.
4
4. Triple Horizontal Rail Framing: Fastening three 2x4 runners per panel using exterior ceramic screws to resist high wind shear.
5
5. Picket Attachment: Screwing individual Western Red Cedar or treated pickets with dual ceramic fasteners to eliminate board pop-out.
6
6. Custom Gate Fabrication: Building rigid gates on welded steel or timber frames with heavy hinges, followed by magnetic cleanup.

Cost Factors & Pricing

Wood fence costs in Gridley, Burlington, and Coffey County depend on linear footage, height (4-ft decorative vs. 6-ft or 8-ft privacy), and picket lumber selection. Western Red Cedar costs more than treated pine up front but delivers superior stability and natural rot resistance. Ground slope, rocky limestone excavation, custom gate count, and old fence removal also factor into final pricing. We provide itemized, written quotes with zero hidden charges.

Permits & Utility Locates

Installations observe Coffey County zoning setbacks and municipal codes in Burlington, Gridley, and Emporia. Residential backyard privacy fencing is capped at 6 feet, while front yard fences are limited to 4 feet to protect traffic sightlines. Kansas 811 utility locates are completed before augering. Rural fence lines comply with Kansas partition fence statutes (K.S.A. Chapter 29). Kraft Fencing carries full general liability insurance.

Why Property Owners Choose Kraft Fencing

Kansas Communities Served for Wood Fence

Our Gridley-based crews provide on-site consultations, underground Kansas 811 utility mark coordination, and complete wood fence across East-Central Kansas:

Coffey County, KS: Our home county: John Redmond Reservoir, Coffey County Lake (Wolf Creek's cooling lake) and Neosho River bottoms mean many fence lines sit on wet, flood-prone ground.
Burlington, KS: Coffey County seat on the Neosho River just below John Redmond Dam; older homes on low ground near the river need posts set for wet soils.
Yates Center, KS: Woodson County seat with a historic courthouse square; aging homes in town and surrounding cattle pasture mean wood privacy repairs inside town and barbed-wire rebuilds outside.
Lebo, KS: Lebo, just off I-35 in northern Coffey County near Melvern Lake, has commuter homes plus farmsteads where split-rail and chain-link line the highway frontage.
Madison, KS: Madison, at the Greenwood County line west of Gridley, is gateway Flint Hills ranch country where pipe fence, barbed wire and corral work dominate.
Olpe, KS: Olpe, south of Emporia on K-99, is surrounded by row-crop and cattle ground; farmstead pens and livestock lots drive woven-wire and pipe fence work.
LeRoy, KS: LeRoy sits in a Neosho River bend southeast of Gridley; small-town lots back onto cropland, so chain-link and woven-wire pet and garden fences are common.
New Strawn, KS: New Strawn was built after the old Strawn townsite was flooded for John Redmond Reservoir; its newer homes sit near Coffey County Lake and Wolf Creek.
Hartford, KS: Hartford borders the Flint Hills National Wildlife Refuge at John Redmond's upper end; refuge-edge farms need deer-resistant garden fence and flood-ready posts.
Neosho Rapids, KS: Neosho Rapids sits on the Neosho River between Emporia and Hartford; river-bottom farms see flood debris load fences, so H-braces and steel posts hold up best.

Wood Fence Questions Answered

Western Red Cedar typically lasts 20 to 25 years because its natural tannins resist rot, insects, and sun cupping without chemical additives. Pressure-treated southern yellow pine is extremely dense and strong for in-ground posts, but pine pickets require regular sealing to prevent warping under intense prairie humidity swings.

“Brandon with Kraft Fencing went above and beyond to repair my fence that had been broken due to poor design by another company. He answered my call and gave me a quote within a day and was out here two days later. Brandon worked very hard in the hottest part of the day to make sure everything was perfect. I would recommend him to anyone that needs a fence built or repaired. Thank you Kraft Fencing.”

“Casey and Roman Kraft did a cedar fence rebuild for my wife and I in December of '25. Our original fence was over 20 years old and in bad need of replacement. Casey came to my house on a Sunday to measure the property and discuss our plans. He got us the bid that evening. His price was extremely competitive and his reviews online were stellar. The days Kraft Fencing committed to build were the 2 rainiest days in December. There were flash flood warnings posted on both of those days and still, Casey and Roman showed up and went to work. I felt bad but they had top notch rain gear and smiles on their faces. They and their crew showed up at 7:30am both days and just got after the job. The craftsmanship is very impressive. They use screws instead of nails, the posts are beefier than the standard 4x4 post, and they use clear cedar in all the wood work except for the posts. The most impressive thing we experiened with Casey and his company was how he and his crew responded to a mistake that was made. He listened to our concern, gave us a few options to rectify the mistake, made sure both my wife and I would be happy with the work around, and then went about his business and made it right (without any additional charge). What a fantastic business he runs and what an ethical guy he is. I give him a 10/10 recommendation if you are looking to get a new fence installed. Brendan H. Great price”

“Kraft fencing did a great job installing our aluminum fence. It was a big job and a difficult yard to fence, as there were multiple changes in elevation. However, the fence looks great, and it was completed quickly. 10/10 recommend”
