Scope of Work & What's Included

Our approach to pipe fence in Gridley and surrounding counties covers every detail from initial property measurement and underground utility clearance through laser alignment and site cleanup:

Corral and fence line layout, elevation mapping, and Kansas 811 utility markings
Hydraulic boring or pneumatic driving of 2-7/8 inch oilfield pipe posts 42 to 48 inches deep
Laser-leveling and anchoring terminal posts in high-strength concrete or driven rock beds
Coping, saddle-cutting, and full-penetration welding of 2-3/8 inch horizontal steel top rails
Installing 4 to 6 pipe rails, tensioned oilfield sucker rod, or 1/2-inch galvanized aircraft cable
Fabricating custom heavy-duty welded pipe swing gates with greaseable barrel hinges and slam latches

Kansas Ground & Weather Considerations

Cattle feedlots, holding pens, and Flint Hills ranch headquarters demand structural perimeter strength that wood and lightweight wire cannot provide. Bulls and crowded feeder steers splinter 2-inch wood boards and pop wire staples when pushed into corners during weaning or sorting. Furthermore, traditional wood posts quickly burn out during prescribed spring pasture burns, leaving livestock vulnerable. In wet seasons, acidic feedlot manure accelerates wood post ground-rot. We solve these severe ranch problems with heavy-wall 2-7/8 inch oilfield steel pipe posts, fully coped and welded top rails, and rust-inhibitive industrial coatings.

Our Proven Installation & Build Process

1
1. Site Layout & Elevation: Shooting laser grades, plotting corral flow or fence lines, and verifying Kansas 811 locates.
2
2. Deep Post Driving: Sinking 2-7/8 inch heavy-wall steel posts 42 to 48 inches into subsoil using hydraulic drivers.
3
3. Saddle Cutting & Coping: Precision torch-cutting or notching horizontal pipe rails to match post curves perfectly.
4
4. Full-Penetration Welding: Mig/stick welding top rails, intermediate runners, and corner braces with high-strength welds.
5
5. Cable or Sucker Rod Infill: Threading and tensioning heavy sucker rod or multi-strand steel cable through pre-drilled posts.
6
6. Heavy Gate Hanging & Priming: Mounting custom balanced pipe gates on greaseable barrel hinges and coating all weld seams.

Cost Factors & Pricing

Welded pipe fence costs in Gridley and Burlington depend on total linear footage, pipe specifications (new structural vs. clean tested 2-7/8 inch oilfield tubing), and number of horizontal rails (3-rail vs. 5-rail vs. pipe-and-cable). Terrain slope requiring stepped coping, rock drilling through limestone caprock, custom cattle gates, and primer painting also influence final bids. We provide detailed, itemized bids.

Permits & Utility Locates

Agricultural pipe fence construction complies with Kansas partition fence statutes (K.S.A. Chapter 29) for shared rural boundary lines. Fencing along county roads meets Coffey County road right-of-way setback mandates. Kansas 811 One-Call locates are mandatory before post driving. Welded pipe fence meets all commercial and agricultural containment standards for livestock holding pens. Kraft Fencing carries comprehensive general liability insurance.

Kansas Communities Served for Pipe Fence

Our Gridley-based crews provide on-site consultations, underground Kansas 811 utility mark coordination, and complete pipe fence across East-Central Kansas:

Coffey County, KS: Our home county: John Redmond Reservoir, Coffey County Lake (Wolf Creek's cooling lake) and Neosho River bottoms mean many fence lines sit on wet, flood-prone ground.
Burlington, KS: Coffey County seat on the Neosho River just below John Redmond Dam; older homes on low ground near the river need posts set for wet soils.
Yates Center, KS: Woodson County seat with a historic courthouse square; aging homes in town and surrounding cattle pasture mean wood privacy repairs inside town and barbed-wire rebuilds outside.
Lebo, KS: Lebo, just off I-35 in northern Coffey County near Melvern Lake, has commuter homes plus farmsteads where split-rail and chain-link line the highway frontage.
Madison, KS: Madison, at the Greenwood County line west of Gridley, is gateway Flint Hills ranch country where pipe fence, barbed wire and corral work dominate.
Olpe, KS: Olpe, south of Emporia on K-99, is surrounded by row-crop and cattle ground; farmstead pens and livestock lots drive woven-wire and pipe fence work.
LeRoy, KS: LeRoy sits in a Neosho River bend southeast of Gridley; small-town lots back onto cropland, so chain-link and woven-wire pet and garden fences are common.
New Strawn, KS: New Strawn was built after the old Strawn townsite was flooded for John Redmond Reservoir; its newer homes sit near Coffey County Lake and Wolf Creek.
Hartford, KS: Hartford borders the Flint Hills National Wildlife Refuge at John Redmond's upper end; refuge-edge farms need deer-resistant garden fence and flood-ready posts.
Neosho Rapids, KS: Neosho Rapids sits on the Neosho River between Emporia and Hartford; river-bottom farms see flood debris load fences, so H-braces and steel posts hold up best.

Pipe Fence Questions Answered

Welded steel pipe is 100% fire-resistant. During annual Flint Hills prescribed spring pasture burns, grass fires easily sweep through fence lines without scorching, weakening, or burning down steel pipe posts, eliminating the expensive post replacement common with timber fencing.

“Brandon with Kraft Fencing went above and beyond to repair my fence that had been broken due to poor design by another company. He answered my call and gave me a quote within a day and was out here two days later. Brandon worked very hard in the hottest part of the day to make sure everything was perfect. I would recommend him to anyone that needs a fence built or repaired. Thank you Kraft Fencing.”

“Casey and Roman Kraft did a cedar fence rebuild for my wife and I in December of '25. Our original fence was over 20 years old and in bad need of replacement. Casey came to my house on a Sunday to measure the property and discuss our plans. He got us the bid that evening. His price was extremely competitive and his reviews online were stellar. The days Kraft Fencing committed to build were the 2 rainiest days in December. There were flash flood warnings posted on both of those days and still, Casey and Roman showed up and went to work. I felt bad but they had top notch rain gear and smiles on their faces. They and their crew showed up at 7:30am both days and just got after the job. The craftsmanship is very impressive. They use screws instead of nails, the posts are beefier than the standard 4x4 post, and they use clear cedar in all the wood work except for the posts. The most impressive thing we experiened with Casey and his company was how he and his crew responded to a mistake that was made. He listened to our concern, gave us a few options to rectify the mistake, made sure both my wife and I would be happy with the work around, and then went about his business and made it right (without any additional charge). What a fantastic business he runs and what an ethical guy he is. I give him a 10/10 recommendation if you are looking to get a new fence installed. Brendan H. Great price”

“Kraft fencing did a great job installing our aluminum fence. It was a big job and a difficult yard to fence, as there were multiple changes in elevation. However, the fence looks great, and it was completed quickly. 10/10 recommend”
